Its a family run business: Wardside’s owners, David and Marjorie Burt, had a clear vision.
They wanted to offer older people purpose-built accommodation that combined hotel-quality facilities, comfort and service with a positive care package.
At the same time, they wanted to create a luxurious care home in which they themselves would be happy to live.

Role: Owners
You won’t find any ‘institutional’ uniforms or regimented meal times at this care home. Instead, residents can enjoy their breakfast in their rooms at a ‘civilized’ hour, join in a range of activities if they like and explore the grounds and Muthill in Perthshire beyond at their leisure.
We also have an open door policy as well as open visiting hours.
Staff
All our staff are fully qualified, as you’d expect. We train and support our staff through their SVQ qualifications. All our staff members have at least SVQ Level 2 in Social Services and Healthcare or above.
What may surprise you is that we have more staff than residents. Why? So that we can provide you with the very best care possible – the level of care we’d like to experience in our later years and that Wardside House has become famous for.
Most of our team have been with us for years and we have a general policy of not employing agency staff, since no one knows the residents like we do.
Mary (SVQ Training Provider)
Wardside House is, by far, the best care provider I visit. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming—not just for residents, but for staff as well. Unlike larger corporate care homes, Wardside House doesn’t treat training as a numbers game. Here, carers are genuinely encouraged and supported.
What sets Wardside House apart?
Many care homes are filled with loud alarms and buzzers, which can be unsettling. Wardside House, by contrast, has a calm environment. The open-door policy helps maintain this peaceful setting. With a strong staff-to-resident ratio and low turnover, it feels like a real community.
David and Marjorie prioritise investing in staff development. Every carer is trained to at least SVQ Level 2 in Social Services and Healthcare, shift leaders to Level 3, while managers, Cara and Felicity, hold Level 4 qualifications.
Roslyn Ward's Wedding Celebration
The wedding of Roslyn Ward who is a carer here and Fraser Deacon who got married on 01.07.17.
Everyone is part of the Wardside House family
Out of her very special day she chose to come to Wardside House to spend some time with the residents. She was in fact here for over an hour and the residents were so happy to see her. She was a beautiful bride and we are so grateful to her allowing us to share a little of her day.
