Our Team
At Wardside House, we pride ourselves on having a highly qualified and dedicated team, ensuring the best possible care for our residents. In fact, we have more staff than residents to provide the level of attention and support we believe everyone deserves—care that we would want for ourselves in later years.
Many of our team members have been with us for over 10-15 years, building strong, lasting relationships with our residents. We are committed to providing consistent care, which is why we have a policy of not employing agency staff—no one knows our residents better than we do.

What do you enjoy most about working with the elderly?
The job is demanding but incredibly fulfilling. The residents are full of character and humour, and I love making a difference in their lives. Many don’t want to be in care, but they need us—and I take pride in being there for them.
What makes Wardside House different?
It feels like home. Staff and residents are more than just acquaintances—we’re friends.
Most memorable experience?
On my wedding day, 30 years ago, I came to celebrate with the residents, including David and Marjorie. It was such a special moment—we are truly a family.
Interests outside of work?
Family and travel—my favourite destinations are York and Gran Canaria.
Advice for those considering a career in care?
You need to have compassion, emotional intelligence, and a strong sense of resilience. The ability to take criticism constructively is key. It’s not a job for those chasing money, but the satisfaction is unparalleled. I care for our residents as if they were my own family.
Gail
Role: Senior Carer
Time at Wardside House: 13 years
What inspired you to work here?
I initially took a job in the kitchen, then moved on to cleaning, and eventually found my passion as a carer—now a senior carer.
What makes Wardside House unique?
It’s a true home, not just a care facility.
What do you enjoy most about the job?
Every day, I get to do something good for someone. That sense of fulfilment is priceless.
Interests outside of work?
As a mother of young children, they keep me busy with all sorts of activities!
Advice for aspiring carers?
It’s not for everyone. If you’re kind and considerate, this job can be incredibly rewarding. However, care work requires commitment—including shifts and weekends. If that’s not for you, this may not be the right fit.
Thinking of a career in care?
At Wardside House, we provide 24-hour care. We need people willing to work both day and night shifts to support our schedule, not the other way around.
Roslyn Ward's Wedding Celebration
The wedding of Roslyn Ward who is a carer here and Fraser Deacon who got married on 01.07.17.
Everyone is part of the Wardside House family
Out of her very special day she chose to come to Wardside House to spend some time with the residents. She was in fact here for over an hour and the residents were so happy to see her. She was a beautiful bride and we are so grateful to her allowing us to share a little of her day.
