Why not read one of our gazettes to get a feel of what happens monthly at Wardside House

One of the attractions of Wardside House is that we lay on everything for you.

Wardside Gazette No. 24

August 2012 · Editor: Resident Margery Neill and Resident Andrew Hodge

New Residents:

Again, we had no new permanent residents joining us last month but Mrs Effie Baird from Edinburgh, was with us for a few days of respite and she seemed to enjoyed her stay.

Death:

We were saddened to learn last month of the death of Glyn Inskip. Glyn had not been too well for some time but passed away peacefully after having returned from a spell in hospital. He was a very quite person who didn’t venture much from his room except at meal times and kept himself to himself However we have learned that he had spent most of his life at sea working on merchant ships before he married and settled down in Crieff.

Good Wishes with many happy returns of the day go to Mrs McAdam, Mrs Hill, Mrs Rodger, Mrs Hendry and Mrs Watson, all of whom had birthdays last month. Most especially to Nan Watson who has reached her 99th birthday and now in her 100th year.

The Craft Class was back to normal again and all pleased to learn that “Sir Christopher Hay’ got the third prize in the Scarecrow Competition.

Our Small Raised Garden was planted with some herbs this year and as a result here is a letter received from the cook- Dawn Ward:-

“The introduction of the Herb Garden has been fabulous to the kitchen. I normally have to buy them from shops and used a small amount – then have to discard the rest. Now I can pick what I need and when. All the herbs have been used to date in soups, casseroles and fish dishes. I would like, in future, to plant more – such as garlic, basil and mint”

That seems an excellent idea!

Used Stamps.

Those who kindly collected and donated their Used Stamps will be interested to know that approximately 300 stamps were sent the Leprosy Mission last month and this is the reply which was received dated 27th July.

“Dear Friends,

Thank you for sending the stamps for the Leprosy Mission.

In answer to your question about the amount of backing paper around each stamp, the absolute minimum is a half centimeter and the maximum one centimeter.

The money raised from the sale of the stamps will go to projects in India, Nepal, Nigeria, Myanmar to name but a few.

Thank you for your support.

Yours sincerely Lisa Laird”

Collectors please note: the minimum amount of backing paper to be left around the stamps is half a centimeter. Half a centimeter is about this amount “ …..”.
